KubSU implements a joint grant with Cuban scientists

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation within the framework of the competitive selection for conducting joint scientific research with Cuban organisations within the framework of ensuring the implementation of the programme of bilateral and multilateral scientific and technological cooperation out of 21 applications supported 5 projects: four – from scientific organisations, one from a higher education institution – Kuban State University. Kuban State University will receive a grant in the form of a subsidy in the amount of 30 million rubles for 2025–2027.

The leader of the project “Development of new methods of brain cell protection in neurodegenerative diseases” on the Russian side is Stepan Sergeevich Jimak, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Physics and Information Systems, and on the side of the Republic of Cuba is Dr Luis Velasquez Perez, President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Professor, researcher, 1st class and 2nd degree specialist in clinical neurophysiology and 2nd degree specialist in neurology.

As part of the project, it is proposed to conduct research into the neuroprotective properties of new lithium compounds, which will provide a basis for the development of biologically active supplements or pharmaceuticals.

The results obtained in the course of the project will enable further preclinical trials to be conducted both in the Russian Federation and Cuba, and in the long term to move on to the phase of clinical trials for various neurodegenerative diseases.
