
On February 10, Kuban State University hosted an introductory visit from Emir Özbay, the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Krasnodar, accompanied by Seville Sheikhova, Secretary of the Consulate General. The delegation was supported by Tigran Manasaryan, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department of the Krasnodar Region’s Department for Business Development and Foreign Economic Activity, and Sergei Manko, First Secretary of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Krasnodar.
Galina Govorova, Director of the International Affairs Department, and Evgeniia Rotai, Deputy Director, introduced the guests to the rich history of the largest university in the Kuban region, its traditions, and its modern achievements. During the visit, the delegation toured the university’s exhibition hall, the gallery of portraits of its rectors, the KubSU museum complex, and the rare books collection in the academic library.
During an official meeting, Mikhail Astapov, Rector of Kuban State University, briefed the Consul General on the university’s main achievements in scientific and educational activities, including projects implemented jointly with international partners. Mr. Özbay highly praised the level of infrastructure development and the academic environment.
According to the Consul General, since taking office in November of the previous year, he has already held meetings with the Governor of the Krasnodar Region, the Head of the Republic of Adygea, and the Mayor of Krasnodar. The Consulate General is interested in developing academic, cultural, and humanitarian ties between Russia and Turkey.
Rector Astapov informed the guests that KubSU currently has 9 citizens of Turkey enrolled. Among them, one student is studying at the Faculty of Economics, one student is at the Institute of Geography, Geology, Tourism, and Service, and 7 Turkish citizens are enrolled in the preparatory department for foreign citizens and stateless persons. The Rector also noted that last year, KubSU staff participated in Rossotrudnichestvo’s selection events in Ankara, resulting in 4 students being selected to study at KubSU under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The visit contributed to the strengthening of Russian-Turkish academic ties and opened new prospects for bilateral cooperation.
