On April 18, the second day of Youth Science Week, taking place in the main building of Kuban State University, opened with a master class on the «Psychology of Influence» by Tatiana Volkodav, a Candidate of Philology and Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology. During this class, the participants learned about the psychological aspects of business cooperation, various manipulation tactics, and, through a role-playing game simulating a situation, they explored new ways of dealing with fear and awkwardness.
Simultaneously, at the Faculty of Biology, activists from the Student Scientific Society (SSS), with successful research experience, gave a lecture for beginner researchers titled «Trends in Student Science». The speakers shared their experiences of participating in grant competitions and discussed current opportunities for young scientists.
One of the most highly anticipated master classes of the week was the workshop on «Object-Oriented Art Therapy,» which combined psychology and art. The workshop brought together not only two faculties, Management and Psychology, and Architecture and Design, but also two generations of participants. Both students and adult professors and guests worked in teams to create their own art pieces.
Alongside the workshop, a lecture titled «Big Data and the Future of Linguistic Research» took place at the «Boiling Point» center. The lecturers, Natalia Ryabchenko, a Candidate of Politics and Associate Professor at the Department of Social Work, Psychology and Pedagogics of Higher Education, and Olga Malysheva, a Candidate of Philology and Associate Professor at the Department of English Philology, spoke about the mechanisms of inserting specific semantic frames into large streams of information. They demonstrated how linguistic methods of processing big data help identify the meaning of disparate text fragments, such as advertisements and social media posts by public figures.
Did you know that there is a place in KubSU where real crystals are kept? Neither did we, until the SSS of the Faculty of Physics and Technology invited us on a tour of the Department’s crystal growth laboratory. During the meeting, Alaa Hammoud, a senior lecturer at the Department of Radiophysics and Nanotechnology, discussed the features of crystal manufacturing and the distinctions between different types of crystals. He also demonstrated a few magic tricks based on the crystals’ ability to absorb ultraviolet radiation.
The final event of the second day was the lecture «The Spiritual Code of European and Russian Cultures of the 14th Century» by Oksana Perenizhko, a Candidate of History and Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign and Oriental Studies. The lecture explored the psychological aspects of people’s worldviews and their relationship with historical events. The participants learned about themes such as the personification of death, the portrayal of love, the concept of heaven and hell, and the attitudes towards the afterlife. The lecture showcased how these themes are examined in Italian painting and literature by Giotto di Bondone and Dante Alighieri, as well as in the frescoes and icons of ancient Pskov and Novgorod.
