On February 7, the Fifth Festival of Chinese Culture and Calligraphy was held at Kuban State University. This year, it was dedicated to the celebration of the Chinese New Year. The festival featured a celebratory concert and an awards ceremony for the winners and prize-winners of the 5th Annual Chinese Calligraphy Competition.
Welcoming speeches to the participants and guests were given by Inna Miroshnichenko, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Affairs; Yuri Smertin, Head of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Oriental Studies; and teacher Zhao Xiaojie. They emphasized the importance of developing intercultural dialogue and the growing interest in learning the Chinese language and traditions in the Krasnodar Region.
Greetings to the organizers and participants of the festival were also delivered by:
- Chen Yan, Head of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jinhua City (Zhejiang Province);
- Yao Guangya, Fourth-Level Consultant of the International Liaison Department of the Shijiazhuang Municipal People’s Government;
- Sun Boyan, Head of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Harbin Municipal People’s Government;
- Representatives of the Administration and students from the twin city of Dujiangyan.
The competition brought together about two hundred participants — schoolchildren and students not only from the Krasnodar Region but also from other Russian cities: Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Khanty-Mansiysk, Stavropol, and Yaroslavl. The young talents demonstrated their skill in calligraphy and their knowledge of Chinese culture and traditions.
The winners and prize-winners were awarded honorary diplomas and commemorative gifts from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. All participants received certificates, and their mentors were given letters of gratitude for their significant contribution to the development of intercultural interaction between Russia and China.
Kuban State University congratulates all participants of the competition and expresses its sincere gratitude to the festival’s partners and guests. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
