Course overview
Unlike Moscow and St. Petersburg, which are the typical cities for foreign study in Russia, Krasnodar provides a relatively relaxed atmosphere of a provincial city. This permits a wide range of opportunities for interaction between foreign and Russian citizens. Krasnodar is a fantastically beautiful and cultured city.
We are delighted to welcome international students to our University campus for engaging and rewarding summer/winter school programs.
The Summer/Winter Russian intensive course for international students offers from elementary to intermediate knowledge of Russian and from intermediate to advanced knowledge of Russian as a foreign language (two separate groups).
The 2-4 week intensive course serves as an introduction to the academic and cultural programs. International participants will have:
- 40-80 classroom hours — intensive Russian (20 hours per week)
- 10 ac. hours – special course in Intercultural Communication (Movie Club, Russian Folklore)
- Testing, followed by the granting of a KubSU Certificate
- Academically related tours on the weekends
Goal and Intent of the course: the perfection of linguistic skills – phonetics, reading, writing, speaking and listening; vocabulary practice in official and conversational speech; introduction to Russian and Cossack cultures and immersion in everyday life through active interaction with Russians.
Nota bene: we can offer face-to-face instruction for Summer course, but only remote training – for Winter school.
When: annually, for Summer session – within July 1-August 20; for Winter session – within January 25-February 24. The beginning of classes depends upon the group of no less than 5 students is recruited.
Timetable
Morning
Every day, in the morning, you’ll participate in academic sessions which explore a range of the Russian language и Culture:
- Monday-Friday 9.40-13.00 – conversation, phonetics, grammar, reading, (translation – for advanced students)
- Tuesday and Wednesday 15.00-16.30 – Intercultural communication discussions related with Russian and local Cossack culture, history, literature, movie, theater, etc.
Afternoon
After lunch, we’ll take you to a key attraction in Krasnodar. This will allow you to apply the knowledge
Example visits include:
- sightseeing tour around Krasnodar and its suburbs,
- Historical Museum,
- Museum of Arts,
- theatrical performances (opera, ballet, drama),
- cultural centers,
- meetings with local famous and ordinary people, etc.
Week-end tours
There are no classes on week-ends.
Thereby, students are offered to experience the Cossacks Cultural Center in Taman, the Black Sea resort city of Gelendgick or Sochi, the city of Goryachiy Klyuch (where you can taste mineral water from natural springs), picnic outside the city (on the bank of the Kuban River), climbing Caucasian mountains, etc.
For participants of remote training in Winter season the virtual guided tours of the same places can be offered.
What’s included (accommodation, meals, activities)
Accommodation
As a rule, international students reside at Kuban State University in dormitory rooms. The dormitories are situated on the University Campus. The four room apartments are up to date facilities and offer the opportunity to integrate into the University and interact closely with Russian students. International students live in separate apartments which consist of four rooms. One room is intended for two-three persons.
The University will give special consideration to cultural and religious needs but cannot guarantee that all international students will be accommodated in single rooms.
As an alternative to hostel and although there is no a constant Home Stay Program in the University, some students who wish to experience Russian family life could be accommodated in host families. Such experience would facilitate language learning and provide direct contact with Russian culture. Families vary in size and composition and can be as diverse as a single child or a couple with two-five children.
Meals
Each day, international students will receive breakfast and lunch on our onsite canteen. In this case the participants of Summer Russian school will have a chance to taste Russian national cuisine: borshch (soup with cabbage), pancakes, potatoes with mushrooms, and others. In the evening they can explore cafes and restaurants in Krasnodar.
Students can go shopping and cook their own meals, which is possible with the facilities provided in the dormitories as well.
Activities
A number of offsite activities are included in the cost of our Summer school, in particular sightseeing tour around Krasnodar and its suburbs, Historical Museum, Museum of Arts, one theatrical performance (opera/ballet/drama), week-end trip to the city of Goryachiy Klyuch. Other visits, trips and tours listed in the section “Timetable”, can be arranged on the participants’ request and for their own expenses.

Our Summer Russian course for international students provides a truly international experience in fantastic location, with unique Russian language and activity programs that ensure the students return home after an unforgettable summer.
Mentoring (buddy program) – throughout the entire Russian course and the period of stay at KubSU in Summer, in order to adapt to the foreign cultural environment as soon as possible, students will be offered the help of the University volunteer students who will meet participants at the airport, help solve any everyday problems, spend free time, do homework, etc.
Online Winter Russian course will give international students an opportunity to get a unique combination of gaining professional knowledge and immersion in Russian life and culture, including the virtual guided tours around the city sights and on the local culture and traditions of the Cossacks.
Our Russian Summer and Winter schools will help you not only to improve the Russian language, but also to understand what Russian people are like. You will gain new knowledge about a different culture, a new communication experience, because language is a mirror of culture. And, of course, you will find new friends.
Upon completion of the training, you will receive a Certificate of the established sample.
