The Faculty of Chemistry and High Technologies is one of the oldest faculties of Kuban State University. It was founded in 1920 as the Faculty of Natural Sciences and over the years it has become one of the most science-intensive faculties of the university, having educated thousands of chemists, outstanding teachers, prominent scientists, heads of enterprises and government agencies during the hundred years of its historical path.
The Department of Chemistry and High Technologies is a scientific and pedagogical centre, with state-of-the-art equipment, advanced research and technological methods, providing education at a high scientific and pedagogical level. The successes of the Faculty are the result of the high qualification of the scientific and pedagogical staff, including 15 professors, 6 doctors of sciences, 30 candidates of sciences, 28 associate professors.

Scientific and educational activity is provided by 2 Doctors of Science, Professors, 14 Associate Professors, Candidates of Science, 2 Senior Lecturers and 2 Lecturers without a scientific degree.
The main scientific directions of the Department are
— Study of complexation processes of d- and f-elements in multicomponent systems by physical and chemical methods, as well as the application of mathematical modelling methods to the study of these systems. Particular attention will be paid to the development of the theory of radiospectroscopy and quantum chemical methods.
— Synthesis of coordination compounds and study of their properties and structure. The new chemicals obtained are used in agriculture and animal husbandry, in industry and engineering, and in the aerospace industry. Light-transforming, radiation-resistant coatings developed in the department are used in Rosaviakosmos companies.
— Development of advanced functional protective materials for protection against environmental impacts of various technospheric systems based on composite materials.
The Department has co-organised a number of conferences, including the International Conference «Spectroscopy of Coordination Compounds», which has been held since 1976.
Scientific and educational work is provided by 7 Doctors of Science, professors, 5 senior scientific employees, 14 associate professors, candidates of science, 4 senior lecturers and teachers.

The main directions of scientific research are
— Chemistry of S,N-containing heterocyclic compounds; the main objects of research are various derivatives of malononitrile, cyanothioacetamide and related compounds;
— Chemistry of organic derivatives of Group IV elements (Si, Ge, Sn) and acetylene compounds; the reactivity of organic stannans and silylated acetylene derivatives are studied;
— Chemistry of composite materials and stabilised nanosystems; development of energy-saving coatings and methods for their application, obtaining composite membrane materials with nano-sized inclusions of silver and other metals, synthesis of polymer modifiers for industrial ion exchange membranes;
— Development of methods for the preparation of antidotes to herbicides and compounds with rostroregulatory activity. Compounds prepared in the Department are tested under laboratory and field conditions as antidotes to the herbicide 2,4-D and as growth regulators for agricultural crops;
— Investigation of reactivity and properties of compounds by computational methods.
Among the best alumni of the Department we should mention the 1978 graduate Vladimir Gevorgyan — organic chemist of world reputation, author of more than 230 scientific publications in the field of transition metal catalysis (cited 18689 times, Hirsch index according to Web of Science is 74). At present he is Professor, Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, University of Texas, USA.

— Synthesis and modification of polymeric films and membrane materials;
— Creation of synthetic polymeric materials based on conductive membranes with electronic and ionic conduction mechanisms;
