The Faculty of Physics and Technology is one of the oldest faculties of Kuban State University.
During 100 years of its history the Faculty has changed its name according to the changes in its structure: Faculty of Physics (1920-1930), Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (1930-1970), Faculty of Physics (1970-1997), and finally, since 1997, Faculty of Physics and Technology.
The main scientific directions of the Faculty are traditionally laser and optical materials science; photonics and integrated optics; radio engineering systems and electronics; biotechnology and biophysics; information technologies.
At present, the Faculty has four departments, a proficiency testing centre for nanoindustry, an astrophysical optical observatory and a number of training and research centres (a joint laboratory with RTR; SRC «Optical and Electronic Components»).
The Faculty organises annual scientific conferences at various levels:
- International Conference «Optics and Spectroscopy of Condensed Matters». This event has been held since 1976 with the participation of leading RAS institutes in the field;
- All-Russian Scientific Conference «Modern Problems of Physics, Biophysics and Information and Communication Technologies»;
- All-Russian scientific conference of young scientists and students «Current state and priorities of development of basic sciences in regions».
The Faculty holds an annual competition «V. Pisarenko Cup» in the categories — the best academic group, the best student of the year, the best teacher.
Students of the Faculty receive state and private scholarships every year: Scholarships of the President of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Russian Federation in the priority areas of modernisation and technological development of the Russian economy; M. Lomonosov scholarship, etc.
Students of the Faculty are winners of international and all-Russian competitions, as well as professional contests and Olympiads: «IT-Planet», «Radiofest», scientific and technical competition «First Step» (RTR), competition of youth innovation projects «Award of IQ-year», «SMART», etc.
Graduates of the Faculty work in leading positions in many industrial enterprises in Krasnodar region and beyond.

The field of professional activity of the bachelor includes
- A set of innovative technologies, means, ways and methods of human activity aimed at creating conditions for processing, storing and exchanging information at a distance using various network structures;
- A set of technical and hardware tools, methods and techniques for processing, storing and exchanging information via wired, radio and optical systems and media.
The aim of the programme is to train specialists capable of solving problems of professional activity in designing, creating and using stationary and mobile communication systems.
Graduates work in such companies as Rostelecom, MTS, Giprosvyaz, etc.

- Organising and carrying out physical researches using X-ray, nuclear, radiation, magnetic resonance, optical, laser, acoustic medical equipment and technologies for therapy and diagnostics, as well as rehabilitation and prophylaxis of human diseases;
- Software development for solving practical and theoretical tasks of pattern recognition in medical-biological practice;
- Development and operation of systems and complexes for therapy and diagnostics.
The programme
- provides training based on the implementation of modern scientific achievements in the educational process,
- provides an opportunity to study some of the most important subjects on the practical examples of experience of public and private research and production organisations in Russia and abroad.

The educational programme has a topical, practical character, aimed at professional training of active, competitive specialists of the new generation, familiar with international practices, possessing analytical skills in production, implementation and operation of electronic devices and systems of various purposes, electromagnetic monitoring of material parameters, conducting research and development.
The training of graduates is carried out in close cooperation with Saturn JSC.
The field of professional activity of graduates of the Master’s degree programme includes technical systems and technologies related to
- Control and management of life systems,
- life support systems, and
- Maintaining optimal conditions for work activity.
The following subjects and areas of professional activity are the focus of study:
- A set of technologies, means, ways and methods of human activity aimed at creating conditions for remote information exchange, its processing and storage;
- technological systems and technical means providing reliable and qualitative transmission, reception, processing and storage of various signs, signals, written texts, images, sounds through wire, radio and optical systems.
Main objective of the training programme
- Preparation of highly qualified specialists in the field of business management, capable of researching, developing, implementing and maintaining information systems and technologies for industrial-technological, organisational-administrative and economic spheres of state structures and business;
- Study of modern methods of data analysis and mathematical and computer modelling of complex systems, as well as software implementation of these methods;
- Achieving gradual integration of education, science and production.

For the merits in the development of education in Russia the Department of Physics and Information Systems was awarded the diploma «The Golden Department of Russia».

The department was founded in 1950 as a part of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Krasnodar State Pedagogical Institute. Its original name was Department of Theoretical and Experimental Physics. In 1970 it was renamed into the Department of Theoretical Physics as a part of the Faculty of Physics of Kuban State University.
It got its current name in 1995 as a part of the Faculty of Physics and Technology.

- Study of crystal formation under conditions of low temperature gradients and dominance of layer-by-layer growth mechanism;
- Study of surface macro-relief and real structure of crystals;
- Image processing and transformation of information and signals using optical elements and devices based on electro-optical and non-linear optical interactions;
- Research and development of SCADA systems for control of technological processes, measurement complexes and scientific experiments;
- Computer simulation of transfer processes: particles, mass, heat, energy, information in physical and chemical media;
- Development of mathematical-numerical methods, software packages;
- Theoretical and experimental studies of the physical nature of the properties of inorganic and organic compounds, dielectrics, including materials for non-linear optics and laser crystals, both solid and amorphous, as a function of their chemical and isotopic composition, temperature and pressure.
- Development of experimental methods for the study of physical properties and creation of physical bases for industrial technologies for the production of materials with specific properties.
Since 2016, employees of the Faculty of Physics and Technology have defended one doctoral thesis and three candidate theses, including two candidate theses under the supervision of employees of the Department.
Employees of the department regularly publish articles in central publications, indexed in scientometric bases.
The Scientific and Educational Centre of Information Systems and Technologies has been established, and since 2022 the basic department «1C-branch solutions» has been organised, headed by the graduate of the Department of Experimental Physics, General Director of «Portal Service», candidate of Physics and Mathematics D. Shevaldin.

Currently, about 300 students are studying in these programmes, including those from such countries as Peru, Mongolia, Syria, etc.
The department actively cooperates with MedRating LLC (MedRocket platform), PortalYug LLC, Saturn PJSC, All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), Rostelecom PJSC, Southern Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, SimbirSoft LLC.

.This department was founded in 1980 as the Department of Electronics. Its origin was connected with the reorganisation of the Department of General Physics into two new departments: the Department of Electronics and the Department of Semiconductors. In 1989 the department was renamed into the Department of Electronics and Optoelectronics as a part of the Faculty of Physics of Kuban State University. It got its modern name «Department of Optoelectronics» in 1994 as a part of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Kuban State University.
Since 1989 the Department of Optoelectronics has been headed by Nikolay Yakovenko, Doctor of Technology, Professor, Full Member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of the Russian Federation, Honoured Inventor of the Russian Federation, Honoured Worker of Higher Professional Education.
The scientific researches of the Optoelectronics Department are aimed at creation and study of elements of integrated optics, quantum photonics, new optical and optoelectronic devices for data acquisition, processing and transmission systems, image visualization using various recording media, synthesis of new materials for photonics and optoelectronics.
The main areas of scientific activity of the Optoelectronics Department are:
- Photonics, nanophotonics and functional materials, waveguide optoelectronics;
- Information Communication Technologies and Optical Fibre Communication;
- Physics and technology of micro- and nanoelements;
- Quantum electronics, radioelectronics and radio-optics.
One of the directions of scientific-research work of the Department is optical observation of celestial bodies in the Astronomical Optical Observatory.
Experimental optical and electronic observations of low Earth orbit and geostationary space objects, dangerously close asteroids and comets, search for supernovae stars in galaxies are currently being carried out.

The Department was established in 1970, when Krasnodar State Pedagogical Institute re-organised into Kuban State University. Its original name was the Department of Molecular Physics.
At present the research work of the department is carried out in the following directions
- research of mechanisms of biophysical effects at influence of nanopowders of metals, electromagnetic field and fractionation of isotopes. ( assistant professor S. Dzhimak, assistant professor G. Ilchenko, assistant professor E. Tekutskaya, teacher D. Shashkov);
- Preparation and study of physicochemical properties of nanocomposite radio-absorbing and colour-transforming materials, Langmuir-Blodgett molecular assemblies for molecular thin-bed magnetic, luminescent and sensor systems (Assistant Professor M. The Department of Physics and Technology organises annual scientific events with the participation of scientists from CIS countries, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Scientists from the Department of Radiophysics and Nanotechnology collaborate with colleagues from Karolinska Institute in Sweden in the study of isotope distribution mechanisms in living systems, and with the Cuban Academy of Sciences in the mathematical modelling of DNA and search mechanisms for genetic diseases. There are joint publications.
Contacts in laser physics with educational and scientific organisations in the People’s Republic of China are being actively developed.
