Online lecture dedicated to Cypriot traditional music

On May 17, students of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, major 44.03.05 “Pedagogical Education (with two training profiles)”, took part in the online lecture on Cypriot traditional music as part of the course «History and Culture of Greece and Cyprus»;  the lecture was organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus in St. Petersburg.

The event was attended by students and staff of St. Petersburg State University, Petrozavodsk State University and Kuban State University.

From KubSU, the event was attended by the head of the Department of Modern Greek Philology Galina Redko, deputy Director of International Affairs Department Evgeniya Rotai, students of Roman and German Philology faculty.

The Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in St. Petersburg, Mr. Kyriakos Pogiatsis made a welcoming speech. He thanked the participants of the event and stressed the importance of developing cultural communication between two countries.

The moderator of the event was Maxim Kisilier, Director of the Greek Institute of St. Petersburg State University. After his introductory greetings, the speech was given to Mr. Petros Solomos, a musician and teacher of traditional Cypriot music.

Petros Solomos’ lecture was devoted to the history of Cypriot music, folk Cypriot dances and songs, traditional musical instruments. The lecture was accompanied by interesting video and audio materials with fragments of Cypriot songs and dances. At the end of the lecture, the students asked questions to Mr. Solomos. Students were interested in the lecturer’s favorite traditional Cypriot songs, learned about the popularity of folk dances in Cyprus.
