It is important to know that in Russian higher education institutions, one lesson lasts 1.5 astronomical hours without a break or 2 academic hours (i.e. 1 academic hour = 45 minutes). The above number of academic hours in Russian and specialized disciplines includes only classroom time.
Russian language sections are held in groups of 8-12 students. Groups for specialized disciplines are formed of 8-35 students. The proficiency level in Russian is determined by preliminary testing, there are groups for elementary level students, along with ones for more advanced learners.
There are two periods of training at the Preparatory Department:
- 1 year program (10 month) – a full academic year, which usually starts on September/October/November 1. The academic year is divided into 2 semesters: the autumn semester and the spring semester. The first semester mainly includes intensive training in Russian (4-6 ac.hours per day); the selected specialization’s subjects are gradually added to the language classes. Enrolment campaign starts on May and ends in August.
- 1,5 year program (17 month) – prolonged academic year, which usually starts on February/March/April 1. Enrolment campaign starts on November and ends in February.
Lessons that a student misses or ones coinciding with Russian national holidays will not be filled in.
After completing their studies at the Preparatory Department, foreign students have to pass final test on the Russian language and two other tests on disciplines of the chosen specialization. Based on the testing results, a Certificate of Kuban State University is issued. Please note that passing the Preparatory Department exams/tests does not equal University admission.
The educational program of the Preparatory Department is in demand mainly among those going to continue their studies at our University and get a diploma (Bachelor/Master/Specialist). However, this program does not obstruct the intentions of those wishing to study only the Russian language, culture and/or history of Russia. If you already speak Russian at an intermediate level and want to improve your language skills and/or learn more about the culture, literature or history of the Russian Federation etc., you can join this program from the second semester. In the 2022/2023 academic year, the tuition fee at the Preparatory Department is 125,000 rubles for 1 year program and 175,000 rubles for 1,5 year program. For all students, there is a possibility of per-semester payment. Please note that this amount only includes tuition fee. Accommodation at the KubSU dormitory and other services are paid separately.
VOLUNTEER CENTER
Volunteering is an integral component of student life at Kuban State University. A powerful impetus for its development was secured when the University won the right to create a Center for recruiting volunteers to participate in hosting the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014. The largest volunteer training center in Russia was opened at Kuban State University. More than 11,000 volunteers from all over Russia were registered in the electronic database of the Kuban State University Volunteer Center, of which more than 5,000 were interviewed, and 2,733 were trained. The result of two years of work was the participation of 1,580 the Center trained in the first Winter Olympics held in Russia.
Volunteers of Kuban State University also worked at the First Youth Winter Games in Innsbruck, at the Summer Olympic Games in London, at the World Summer Universiade in Kazan (World University Games), the 2017 Confederations Cup, the 2018 World Cup, the Russian Grand Prix Formula 1 and other significant sports’ events.
YOUTH CULTURAL AND LEISURE CENTER
The Youth Cultural and Leisure Center was founded in 1994. Over the years, the Center’s creativity has attracted a significant number of students. Every year, new stars are lit on the university horizon, which become a real constellation of talents.
The main task of the Youth Cultural and Leisure Center is to organize the cultural and leisure life of students. Experienced specialists who are leaders of creative teams help students. About a thousand students are engaged in the studios of the Youth Cultural and Leisure Center. Supported by the leadership of the University, since its founding in 2010, the Center and the University have hosted a festival of youth creative initiatives with over 7,000 participants. These initiatives include displays of international cultures, creative contests, and gala concerts.
SPORT
Kuban State University has won the glory of a sports university. Since 1952, university trained sportsmen have become champions in the USSR, Russia, Europe, the world, and the Olympics. To this day they continue to glorify our country at competitions at various levels.
These achievements in university sports are possible, in part, due to the modern facilities and equipment. The Kuban State University stadium is one of the best in the South of Russia; the university also has a fitness center with a swimming pool.
