The Faculty of Journalism is one of the youngest branches of Kuban State University. It was founded on the basis of the Department of Journalism on 21 August 1991. At present the Faculty has about 2000 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students.
Since its establishment, it has been the alma mater of many international students. Thus, the corresponding organisations of Mongolia, a number of Latin American and Arab countries, CIS countries considered the training of specialists at the Faculty to be effective. In addition, these countries have sent their students for specialist, bachelor, master and postgraduate studies. A prominent Palestinian practitioner and lecturer, Vedad al-Bargouti (scientific supervisor Y. Luchinsky) brilliantly defended her candidate’s dissertation. Currently, the largest group of foreign students is Iraqi Masters students.
Special mention should be made of the graduates of the Faculty who are now successfully managing the activities of federal and regional mass media. A star of the first magnitude is Margarita Simonyan, a Russian journalist and media manager, editor-in-chief of the RT television channel since 2005, of the international news agency Russia Today since 2013 and of the Sputnik news agency since 2014. Young professionals — graduates of the Faculty — demonstrate both the skills of daily work and significant individual creative results, creating feature books, original broadcast programmes and media management.
The social life of the Faculty has its own peculiarities. Civic education of students, as well as aesthetic and moral-ethical education are important directions of the Faculty’s activity. Events organised in the Faculty allow students to show their creative abilities, demonstrate their leadership qualities and create a corporate culture.
